FAQs

Account Login

When you buy a TonePack, you will create an account on the website with a login. Your login can be either the user name you specify or your email — both will work —  plus a strong password. You need a password to access your account. Go to the Account button on the main page to login in.

Once logged into your account, you can view all orders, update your address or email, opt in or out of getting a twice annual newsletter, and check the “My Downloads” area to see the latest available firmware versions of TonePacks you have already purchased.

You need the email you ordered under to login. Some people buy more than one product and use two different emails to do so, so their orders are not combined.  Hopefully you kept your email receipt and can go back to locate the email you used to login.

There is a password reset function on the website. If you choose it, you should get an email within a few minutes to reset your password. If you don’t see it, check your junk/spam folder.   The email will come from heybuddy@austinbuddy.com so make sure that email is in your contacts/approved email list.

If you do not get the password reset email and it’s not in your junk/spam folder, you can email me at heybuddy@austinbuddy.com. Please include your account email so i can locater you, and I can manually reset your password.

Some ISPs may block my heybuddy@austinbuddy.com email. I fI email you and it bounces back to me, I will send it to you from a separate AustinBuddy gmail address.  Please note — I will NEVER ask you for your password via email, only your account email and maybe the unit type and product you bought.  Never give your password out to anyone!

Don’t panic, and sorry for the inconvenience.  It will reset in 1 hour.

Why did this happen? If you try to login several times with the wrong email, or user name, or password, the website’s auto-security feature thinks you are a BOT (they are a really problem!) – and the website’s auto-security will temporarily lock you out for 1 hour, then reset.

After an hour, you should be able to log in, provided you now have the correct email and password of course! If you continue to have issues, contact me.

Payment or Ordering

The website accepts both Paypal and major credit cards. It does not accept other forms of payment.

Usually you will get a receipt for your order and a download email link.

If you do not get such an email, it may be your ISP is blocking my email address. But you can login to your account and check the “Downloads” area — and you should see your TonePack download files there.

No, we do not. The website is a https:// secure website as well.

Credit cards from countries other than the United States sometimes are rejected by the e-commerce system.

It’s very important to put the street address and name exactly as it appears on your card statement, in addition to the card number information. The card verification and fraud prevention process matches what you put into verify against what cardholder shows.

The best way to fix this problem is to link your credit card number to a Paypal account, and use Paypal to pay for the TonePack  (Paypal always goes through). That way Paypal charges your credit card directly, which is what you intended.

Firmware Compatibility and File Download

Each TonePack matches a specific Fractal firmware for your unit. YOU ONLY NEED TO DOWNLOAD THE ZIP FILE THAT MATCHES YOUR FRACTAL HARDWARE’S CURRENT FIRMWARE VERSION – NOT OLDER ONES.

It’s important that you only to download the file with the firmware that matches your current Fractal firmware. If you don’t know what firmware your Fractal unit has, there are a few ways to find out:

  • Run the FractalBot utility — it will show you what firmware it “sees” when it connects to your Fractal hardware.
  • Open your Fractal software editor. In the top left it will show the connected hardware unit’s firmware.
  • Check on the hardware itself. Go into UTILITIES and scroll to the last few pages — one page will show the firmware number.

Always look for the file that says “LATEST” in the name and has the most recent date (month/year) in file name shown – that is the latest TonePack update.

Older TonePack zip files are kept available in your downloads area (marked “OLDER”), going back two or more years. Why? Because some touring or local bands who use my TonePacks do not update  their Fractal unit’s firmware regularly. This keeps their access to prior firmware TonePack versions intact.

You can still use the latest version with a higher firmware in most cases.

To find out if a new Fractal firmware has changed an existing amp (and thus amp preset) settings, read the Fractal firmware’s release notes. If no specified amp models require a reset in the new firmware, then all the TonePack presets should work fine on higher numbered Fractal released firmwares.

For example, the LiveGold TonePack made for firmware 21 for the Axe-Fx III works great on Fractal firmware 22 for the Axe-FX III.  Firmware 22 will “see” the  LiveGold firmware 21 presets fine, and the amp tones will not change.

No! TonePack presets are mostly the same across all three units, and each TonePack as a separate folder for the presets for a specific unit. Look for the FM3 folder, or FM9 folder, or Axe-Fx III folder in your zip file. You get all three unit versions with one TonePack purchase!

The 1400+ Naked Amps uses two amp and two cab blocks in it’s presets, so it is not available for the FM3 for that reason – the presets won’t work or import into the FM3 properly.

All newer customers have unlimited downloads, as of March 2020.

Some older customers for older TonePack products may see or reach a limit of ten downloads. If you reach that limit of ten total and are told you can’t download anymore, contact me with your login email, and we will easily fix this for you. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Technical Support

First, check out my video tutorials applicable to that TonePack. Multi-series Video Tutorials exist for every TonePack (except Brit Rock Royalty #1).

I also have video tutorials covering Fractal Software basics for Axe-Edit and FractalBot (see Axe-FX III, but applicable to FM3 and FM9) as well as an older AX8-Edit video tutorial.

Second, read the user Manual included in the TonePack.

If that fails, contact me via email , and I will try to help if it’s a TonePack-related question.

If you have a question about the Fractal hardware unit you own or Fractal software, you should check the Fractal Forum out for technical help, or contact Fractal technical support.

I highly recommend that you always use Fractalbot to back up all your unit’s preset banks to your computer regularly — all banks, Banks A, B, C and D (or more), before you load any new presets into a bank.  Make this a habit!

If you do these backups of your unit to your computer, then you can always use FractalBot to re-load those saved banks, at anytime. Meaning, this will let you revert back if you need to older presets by reading them.

Be aware that you can also download the Fractal Factory presets anytime, directly from the Fractal website as well for any unit. So those are never truly lost.

Now, you can load a TonePack into any preset bank – A, B. C or D — you choose. There is usually a useful “EMPTY” bank tool that is completely empty included in most TonePacks as well.

Many users will reserve Bank A for their favorite sounds and make that their “working main bank.”

Then they will load a TonePacks into Banks B, C and/or D, and audition the sounds. That way they have the option to remove them after they’ve full explored them and copied their favorite presets into Bank A, using the Axe-Edit editor.

You can do this by using the Axe-Edit PRESET MANAGER function. Watch my tutorial videos on using Axe-Edit for the Axe-Fx III to learn this.

Basically, once inside Preset Manager, you open up a second AxeEdit browser window (use Show/Hide menu if you don’t see the browser window at first). So on the initial (right side) browser you will see the presets now residing in your Fractal hardware unit’s memory, but in the second newly opened (left side) browser, you can load banks here that are held in your computer’s memory for you to view, before copying over to the hardware.

Using the drop down menu in that new, opened left side browser (use Show/Hide menu option to reveal it), load a TonePack bank into that left side browser area — which is held your computer’s memory for now, NOT your Fractal unit’s hardware.

Then click “Auto-Audition.”

If you then click on a presets in that left side browser, the Axe-Edit editor will load that preset into a buffer in your Fractal Hardware — and you can now “audition” and play it, and change scenes, etc.  It is not saved to the hardware however!

To save a preset you have auto-auditioned (or a group of them, click them in the left browser and drag them to the right browser into the preset slot you want them to be saved to. You are “dragging from my computer memory over to the hardware unit memory” this way. Then you must click SAVE – and the hardware unit will now SAVE the dragged preset into the slot you dropped it.

If you try to load presets that were saved on a LATER firmware than the one currently on your hardware unit, the Fractal hardware will not “see” them since they are incompatible with a later firmware that they were saved under. Update your firmware to version number equal to or higher than the TonePack’s stated firmware version, and the presets will now be visible/appear.

You can move/change the On/Off settings for Control Switches using the software editor by going to the Controllers area, and selecting CS By Scene tab. You’ll see a 8 by 6 grid of 8 scenes by 6 available controllers, set to either On or Off for particular Scenes.  Just flip the shown value and then SAVE the preset and it will save. Note that you do have to change to another scene and then back to original scene to actually “see” the CS switch change.

First – do you have a wah pedal connected, or an expression pedal that is triggering a wah block? Make sure that wah block is off. See this video for tips on using Wahs. Try several different presets.

Presets are generally designed for humbuckers, unless you see a an asterisk “*” in front of a preset scene’s name – those are designed for single coils. Read the TonePack’s user manual.

Every user’s playback or FRFR system is different than others. You may need to “tune” yours overall.

Thankfully, Fractal provides you a great tool that works on all presets but EQ’ing at the hardware’s outputs. You can do that using a Global Output EQ. I prefer the parametric one.

Make -12b slope low end cuts at between 80Hz and 150hz (use your ears) and make -12 db slope high end cuts between 8.5kHz to as low as 3.3kHz – again, use your ears to guide you in setting “where”, and not your eyes. Very few real life guitar speakers put out information above 6.5kHz.

After that, if you guitar sounds still seems flat, then both gently and widely (wide Q) boost your mids around 500Hz to 900Hz — no more than +1db usually does the trick.

Please — would prefer you do not do that, and that you erase any TonePack presets before selling to others.

If you don’t, understand that the buyer will only have access to that version of presets. If a Fractal firmware requires an update in the future that requires amps/presets to be redone, those older presets will not be eligible for any future free update, unless your buyer buys the TonePack for themselves.
